Teaching the Franciscan Intellectual Tradition:

Salvation: Entering Divine Life                                    (15 minutes)

                              William J Short OFM

The Franciscan Tradition is about life, thus Brother Bill invites us to consider salvation as “entering divine life.”   Using the San Damiano cross, an image of the living Christ, this presentation explores how the life and death of Christ is about the mystery of self-giving love rather than about the mystery of justice.  It is not about paying a debt; it’s about God’s desire to share love and life with humanity.
The cross, like the Incarnation, is God’s participation in humanity and allows God to experience human suffering and death.   It is the person of Christ, not the act of suffering and dying that brings life.  We enter divine life through the Incarnation and the life, dying and rising of Christ.
